Tom Costabile, ASME’s Executive Director / CEO, is a Mechanical Engineer by training and began his career in the nuclear power industry. He later joined CBS Records to oversee the development of the company’s compact disc and distribution operations. He went on to numerous leadership roles in the music distribution industry with P&L responsibility of over $3 billion and a staff of over 4,000.
Prior to joining ASME, Tom advised boards, senior executives, private equity sponsors and investors. Tom has also provided leadership on several not-for-profit boards, including serving as chair of the Montgomery Academy, board member emeriti of both the University of Oregon Foundation and the Oregon Children’s Foundation and board chair of the High Tech Broadcasting Network.
Tom earned his MBA with honors in Finance from Long Island University and a BSME with honors from Manhattan College. Since joining ASME in May of 2018, Tom has made reengagement with ASME’s students, sections and volunteers a cornerstone of his tenure.

Thomas Costabile is responsible for implementing the Society’s strategy focused on the creation of products, services and programs around ASME’s initial core technologies – manufacturing, bioengineering, robotics, clean energy, and pressure technology. He is also responsible for guiding organizational programs in codes and standards development, membership, conferences, technical publishing, education and professional development, and public policy. From his base at ASME’s global headquarters in New York City, he oversees ASME’s strategic initiatives, finance, operations and staff.
