Testing & Analysis

Testing Procedure

TESTING MATRIX

The oil analysis test matrix shown in the table below will allow us to effectively chart and keep track of the oil analysis.  Our intent is to have a laboratory analysis performed on the lubricating oil after every 10 hours in which it has been run on a specific fuel mixture (x% diesel, y% SVO).

To allow for the most flexible analysis, an additional sample of oil will be taken at 2-hour intervals during these tests.  These samples will not be analyzed initially; however, if a specific 10-hour test shows rapid degradation (i.e. excessive oxidation or iron content), one or more of these intermediate samples can be analyzed in the laboratory using more comprehensive techniques that are not included in the standard oil analysis package described above.  These intermediate tests will be performed as needed, and contact persons at the laboratory will need to be consulted for each particular anomaly that arises.  Thus, the particulars of these intermediate tests will be addressed later on in the project as they are needed.
