UN Millenium Development Project

      "At the Millennium Summit in September 2000 the largest gathering of world leaders in history adopted the UN Millennium Declaration, committing their nations to a new global partnership to reduce extreme poverty and setting out a series of time-bound targets, all with a deadline of 2015, that have become known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)."

Millenium Village Project

      "In January 2005 the UN Millennium Project put forth an action plan to end this poverty through an integrated set of practical and utterly affordable interventions aimed at meeting the world's Millennium Development Goals: bed-nets to fight malaria; vaccinations to fight infectious disease; antiretroviral therapies to fight AIDS; fertilizers and agro-forestry to raise crop yields; bore wells for safe drinking water; diesel generators for village electricity, to name a few."
