Graduate Student Openings
Prof. Modi's group is seeking to recruit graduate students in the following areas within the broad field of technology and sustainable development:
1. Address the challenge of developing and disseminating technologies, information andpractices that can help reduce emissions and exposure from the combustion of solid biomass for cooking while optimizing biomass consumption. This is a unique opportunityto work with colleagues in public health/engineering/economics/ecology to examine themultiple dimensions of these problems through engineering, development, fieldwork and surveys. A strong interest in development issues is a must.
2. Remote sensing, image recognition and use of geographical information systems (GIS) for energy planning. The effort would involve use of spatial statistics as well asdeveloping new algorithms for image processing. Particular emphasis on strategies tomatch time-varying demand/supply of energy
The students could start immediately. Financial aid support in the form of a
Graduate Research Assistantship (with monthly stipend and full tuition) is
available for qualified students.
